Parent Involvement

Parent-Teacher Organization

The purpose of the PTO is to promote the welfare of ALL children and to bring into closer relation the home and school. The PTO is open to all parents, grandparents, and teachers who believe that our children are the future. We encourage each of you to participate and have a voice in the future of our kids. The PTO meets at 5:30 pm in the gym on the second Tuesday of each month.

The Jefferson Elementary PTO has contributed so much to enhance our school. Some of these contributions include the following: (This list is not all inclusive.)

  • New Jefferson Sign, installed in 2022
  • Yearbooks
  • Jefferson School T-Shirts
  • Donations for Family Nights
  • Field Day
  • Fundraisers
  • Food and Treats

Classroom PTO Parent Representative

Each classroom has a PTO Parent Representative who organizes classroom parties (Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day) throughout the year. They are asked to reach out to other classroom parents for items to bring, such as plan a game, goodie bags, treats, drinks, etc. Teachers appreciate the help for this. Sign ups will be out at Open House, then PTO Parent Reps will be notified soon after.

Parent Involvement Policy

Jefferson Elementary will involve parents in regular, two-way meaningful communication addressing student achievement and ensuring:

  • that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning
  • that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education
  • that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child

In compliance with Section 1118(a)(2), of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Jefferson Elementary agrees to implement required statutory requirements to:

  • Involve parents in the joint planning and development of the building school improvement plan through representation on building SITE Councils
  • Involve parents in an annual review of the building school improvement plan and use the results of the annual review to address any identified barriers to parental participation. The annual review will be conducted each spring and will include an analysis of state and local assessment data, a review of grade level needs and services provided, parent/teacher/and/or student survey data, and a summary analysis of the effectiveness of school services.
  • Share, discuss, and sign the Parent School Compact during the fall parent-teacher conference. The compact will also be posted on the district website.
  • Involve parents in the planning and development of effective parent involvement activities at the building level.
  • Build the schools’ and parents’ capacity for parent involvement by:
    • providing parents with information on state standards, assessments, requirements of Title I, monitoring their child’s progress, and working with educators.
    • providing materials, resources and training to help parents work with their children to improve academic achievement. Parent trainings and family education nights will be planned each year based on the school needs assessment and may include a family Literacy Night, Math Night, etc.
    • communicating regularly with parents in clear and understandable terms. This will include opportunities for parents to participate in decision-making roles, volunteer opportunities, an annual parent survey, parent school compacts, and parent-teacher conferences. Parent-teacher meetings will be scheduled at any time, as requested by parents.
    • coordinating parent involvement activities with other community organizations.

Jefferson Site Council

The Jefferson Site Council, consisting of parents, teachers, and community members, acts as an advisory group in the school improvement process. The Site Council advises the school on various school concerns and monitors the progress of the School Improvement Plan. A list of current Site Council members will be provided at the beginning of the school year. Parents interested in serving on the Site Council, as positions become available, should contact the building principal.
